Do you exercise regularly? How is your mental health?
These sorts of questions help define the condition of a person applying for a life insurance policy, especially in cases where that individual has a “significant medical history”. Their issues could range from coronary artery disease to diabetes or Parkinson's disease. Surprisingly perhaps, the industry wants to help and guide people gain coverage even when they have health challenges. A process exists by which preparation of the application can be done in concert with the insurance carrier well in advance of the submissions, This coordination can make the difference between achieving a successful and affordable life insured result and the opposite. |
Regular exercise creates a very positive impact on your ongoing physical and mental health. That being said, a recent mental health survey conducted by Manulife this past Sept 2020 reports a reduction in positive coping strategies due to the lockdowns of COVID-19, including a reduction in visits with family members and regular exercise, of the 4,010 respondents. Seems that the popularity of online training sessions and Peleton bikes has not been enough!
The Parkinson’s research team at UBC regularly encourages the benefits of exercise, community socializing, and music. Perhaps you know about the Blue Zone study which investigated areas of the world in which people enjoy much longer lives due to a daily dose of physical activity and community time? Not so surprisingly, living within the Mediterranean region seems to be quite good for the sole, too.
The application process must always begin with a listening and discovery period. By working closely with the field underwriting team of the Canadian insurance carriers, any key issues of concern can be addressed and the alternatives considered well before the submission goes in. For clients over 50 and especially over 60 years of age, gaining valued coverage could mean the world of difference to their loves ones and bring a very positive change to their legacy.
So once you've considered this advice, perhaps get out for a walk along the ocean or your favorite hiking trail? You’ll be happy that you did, as will your dog.
